OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate CAMNAT in Child Development

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for learners aged 14-16 who wish to develop knowledge and practical skills in child development.  It is design with both practical and theoretical elements, which will prepare students for further qualifications in child care.

What will the student study as part of this qualification?

All students will study three mandatory topics as follows:

1.     Health and well-being for child development.

2.     Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years.

3.     Understand the development norms of a child from birth to five years.

First topic of Study - Year 10: Unit R018: Health and well-being for child development

Learning outcomes

1.     Understand reproduction and the roles and responsibilities of parenthood

2.     Understand antenatal care and preparation for birth.

3.     Understand postnatal checks, postnatal provision and conditions for development

4.     Understand how to recognise, manage and prevent childhood illnesses

5.     Know about child safety

60 guided learning hours.  1 hour and 15 minute written paper. 80 marks OCR-set and marked This question paper:

  • consists of two sections, comprising short answer and extended response questions.
  • assesses the quality of written communication

Second topic of study - Year 11: Unit R019: Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years

Learning outcomes

1.     Understand the key factors when choosing equipment for babies from birth to 12 months.

2.     Understand the key factors when choosing equipment for children from one to five years.

3.     Know the nutritional guidelines and requirements for children from birth to five years.

4.     Be able to investigate and develop feeding solutions for children from birth to five years.

30 guided learning hours.  60 marks.  Centre assessed and OCR moderated.  The centre assessed tasks will be practical tasks in the context of an assignment, selected from the OCR bank of OCR set assignments.

Third topic of study - Year 11: Unit R020: Understanding the development of a child from birth to five years

Learning outcomes

1.     Understand the physical, intellectual and social development norms from birth to five years.

2.     Understand the benefits of learning through play.

3.     Be able to plan different play activities for a chosen developmental area with a child from birth to five years.

4.     Be able to carry out and evaluate different play activities for a chosen developmental  area with a child from birth to five years.

30 guided learning hours.  Centre assessed tasks.  60 marks centre assessed and OCR moderated.  The centre assessed tasks will be practical tasks in the context of an assignment, selected from the OCR bank of OCR set assignments.
